Inspiring Author of the Week: David Farland
This series was a thrift store find. A series of books well broke in and enjoyed by their last owners; the spines broke in several places, which made sense as the books are massive. The reason for the 600+ pages was the impressive world building and the unique use of magic. It reminded me of a roleplaying game, where my knight had the strength of ten men and the wit of four. The difference being, the strength and wit wasn’t gained through experience, but through removing them from another being. Leaving those people weak and slow-witted. It is a dark premise, one that provides a dark look at what people will do to become Runelords.

Oh Winter, Let’s Be Friends
I have to admit, this week has been surreal. I was not expecting such a winter in Houston. I am from Canada and assumed, naively, the winter would be as mild as the last one where 3℃ was cold. Not freezing and certainly not with such side effects from the cold. And, although we have not been completely resilient, we have a few lovely lessons from the week, so far.

Inspiring Author of the Week: Angela Roquet
As you know from the previously shared authors, I like a little snark. Action and a brief romance are great, but I need a character I can connect with, which means sarcasm, snark, banter, deadpan humour, etc. I want to smile and laugh while reading a story I am fully engaged in. Angela Roquet, author of the Lana Harvey, Reapers Inc. Series provides loads of snark while her protagonist, Lana Harvey does the minimal requirements as her position as a reaper. Why not? She’d rather hang out with her friends—though really she only has one outside of work, the archangel Gabriel.

Valentine’s Day in Sci-Fi: Firefly No. 2 from BOOM! Studios
Valentine’s Day arrives this weekend, along with it the expectations of romance. However, romance in our house differs from most. I prefer sarcasm, action, and a bit of romance. Episode 2 in the Firefly comic series has a few scenes that exemplify the love and romance between Zoe and Wash. The firefly series is full of little quips and scenes shared by the love birds.

About Me
Hi, I’m Angela. I love reading and exploring new places, which works out well as my family continues to move around the world. I prefer cuddling up with a fantasy, science fiction, or mystery adventure, or any mashup of them. My debut novel, Veiled Shadows, is the first instalment in the River Run Series.
